Fistula Foundation Forges Ahead in Zambia
“We are in it together, and we can get through it together!”
Fistula Foundation Zambia is on a roll! In the last several weeks, our team has delivered truckloads of supplies to our network hospitals across the country. We’ve also provided life-changing fistula surgery to 40+ women—all in the throes of a global pandemic!
Thanks to supporters who gave to Fistula Foundation’s Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund, our teams on the ground have delivered personal protective equipment (PPE) to eight hospitals across Zambia, including masks, gloves, bleach, and handwashing stations. Our hospitals now have the supplies they need to protect their staff and continue their vital work.
However, obstetric fistula hasn’t stopped because of Covid-19—and neither have we. Women are still coming through our hospital doors, suffering needlessly, for want of a single surgery that can transform their lives.
Over the last several years, Fistula Foundation has established a grassroots outreach network in Zambia that suffering women trust. Even during this unprecedented time, community health workers have continued to seek out and refer fistula patients for treatment.
Thanks to their outstanding efforts, our surgeons at Mansa General Hospital were able to perform more than 40 fistula repair surgeries in just two weeks. That’s more than 40 women who now have their continence (and confidence!) restored.
Our team in Zambia has embraced this motto: “We are in it together, and we can get through it together!” With help from supporters like you, their passion and effectiveness are making a life-changing difference for women in need.
Fistula Foundation is the global leader in fistula treatment, providing more repair surgeries to more women than any other organization.
